JSNSR04T Waterproof Ultrasonic Sensor : Working & Its Applications The JSN-SR0T4 is a waterproof ultrasonic distance/range measurement sensor module with a non-contact range/distance of 25 cm to 450 cm and is very similar to the ultrasonic sensor found in a car bumper. It Operates from a nominal supply voltage of 4.5 V to 5.5 V DC. However, they typically operate at 5.0 VDC and require 30 mA of maximum current. The equivalent of JSNSR04T Waterproof ultrasonic is the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor. The alternatives of JSNSR04T are the IR sensor module, US transmitter-receiver module, IR sensor pair, and IR analog distance sensor. This article gives a brief description of how to use the JSNSR04T waterproof ultrasonic sensor. What is JSNSR04T Waterproof Ultrasonic Sensor? The JSNSR04T ultrasonic sensor is very similar to the ultrasonic sensor in a car and has several important design advantages over conventional sensors. This obstacle sensor is available in two separate parts. One is the transducer, which is the sensing element, and the other is the control board. This module can provide information on objects ranging in size from 250mm to 4500mm. JSNSR04T Waterproof Ultrasonic Sensor The main benefit of using this waterproof ultrasonic obstacle sensor is the ability to remotely locate the sensing element in any control circuit. JSNSR04T Sensor Pin Diagram Pin 1: (5V): This pin refers to the positive power supply of the sensor. Pin 2: (Trig): This pin refers to the input pin of the sensor, which is kept at an active high for 10 microseconds to initialize the measurement by transmitting ultrasonic waves. Pin 3: (Echo): This pin refers to the output pin of the sensor, which is held at an active high for a period and this is equal to the time taken for the ultrasonic wave to return to the sensor. It is a closed integrated waterproof cable probe, which is used for wet and bad measurements. Its operating voltage is DC 3.0V to 5.5V. Its working current is less than 8mA. Its probe frequency is 40kHz. Its farthest range is 600cm. Its recent range is 20cm. It provides a distance accuracy of ±1cm. Resolution is 1mm. The measuring angle is 75°. Working Principle The working principle of the JSNSR04T waterproof ultrasonic sensor is similar to the HC-SR04 sensor. However, the JSNSR04T sensor has only one transducer connected by a cable of 2.5 meters. These sensor modules are available in 2 separate sections. One is the transducer, which represents the sensing element and the other is the control board. The sensor works according to a simple formula given below. Distance = Speed x Time The ultrasonic wave is transmitted by an ultrasonic transmitter. This ultrasonic wave is traveled in the air and whenever it is objected to by any object/material, then it is reflected towards the sensor. This reflected wave is observed and measured by the ultrasonic received module. Now measure the distance using the above formula with the known speed and time values. The universal speed of an ultrasonic wave at room temperature is 330m/s. The circuit is inbuilt into the module to calculate the amount of time taken for an ultrasonic wave to return and to turn ON the echo pin high for the same time. This helps to know the amount of time taken for the whole process. The distance is calculated by using a microprocessor or microcontroller. JSNSR04T Waterproof Ultrasonic Sensor Circuit Diagram/How to use: As discussed above, the pin configuration and working principle of this sensor is similar to the HC-SR04 distance sensor. It is possible to interface this sensor with microcontrollers such as ARM, Aurdino, Raspberry Pi, PIC, etc. The JSNSR04T waterproof ultrasonic sensor is powered up with a positive 5V regulated supply through VCC and sensor ground pins of this sensor. JSNSR04T Waterproof Sensor Circuit The I/O pins are trigger and echo pins, which can be connected to the microcontroller’s I/O pins. To start the measurement, the trigger contact must be set high for 15 µs and then turned off. This action generates 40 Hz ultrasonic waves at the transmitter and receiver, waiting for the wave to return. After the wave gets reflected by the object, the echo pin rises for a time equal to the time it takes for the wave to return to the sensor. The circuit diagram/how to use/interfacing JSNSR04T waterproof ultrasonic sensor with microcontroller is shown in the figure below. The amount of time which the Echo pin remains high is determined by the MCU/MPU as it provides information on how long the wave takes time to return to the sensor. Use this information to measure the distance as described above.
